Project overview
This project began with a Revopoint scan of a seated Buddha statue. The scan file is dated 30 November 2024. The model was published on Sketchfab in March 2025 with 1.76 million vertices and 3.52 million faces, enough to read the hair curls, the robe borders and the petals of the lotus base. The scan later served as a reference for a large-scale Buddha model.
The statue
Brass, copper and lotus petals
The statue sits in meditation mudra with an alms bowl in its hands, on a base of lotus petals edged with a beaded rim. The polished brass has copper-toned hair curls and a faceted finial. Photographs also show the design in a matte grey finish.

The scan
Clay render of the scan
The scan contains geometry without colour, so I rendered it in a matte clay material. I used a single sun and soft sky in Blender to show the surface detail.

Published model
On Sketchfab
The scan is online as "Buddha", described as a 3D Buddha scan and tagged buddha, sculpture, nepal, 3dscan and revopoint3d. It was published on 28 March 2025 with 1,760,011 vertices and 3,518,703 faces, in the categories Characters & Creatures and Cultural Heritage & History.
The large model
From a statue to a large build
The scan was used to build a large-scale Buddha model. The photograph shows a large Buddha head in clay, in a workshop.
